About viddlp
viddlp is an independent publication about the technology that moves video across the internet. We write about how streams are encoded, packaged, protected and delivered, and we build small, free tools that help people test and plan video projects.
Who we write for
Our readers are developers wiring up a player for the first time, course creators who want to stop their lessons from being shared, product managers comparing streaming vendors, and curious viewers who want to know why a film plays in HD on one device and in SD on another. We try to explain each topic so that a newcomer can follow it and a practitioner still learns something.
How we work
- We check the specs. Claims about HLS, DASH, CMAF, Encrypted Media Extensions and the major DRM systems are checked against the published specifications and vendor documentation.
- We test. Settings and recommendations come from encoding, packaging and playing real files, not from copying other articles.
- We update. Streaming changes fast. Every guide shows the date it was last reviewed, and we revise pages when browsers, codecs or platform rules change.
- We stay independent. We are not owned by any streaming vendor. When we compare products, we say what each one is good at and where it falls short.
Our tools
Every tool on viddlp runs inside your browser. Files you pick and stream URLs you paste are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers.
What we do not do
viddlp does not provide tools or instructions for downloading, ripping or decrypting content you do not have the rights to. Our DRM articles explain how protection works so that businesses can deploy it well and viewers can understand playback limits.
