How to compress a video in your browser

Limits of browser compression
This tool uses the recording engine that browsers ship for video calls. It is private and needs no install, but it runs in real time and gives less control than a desktop encoder. Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The compressor re-encodes the video inside your browser using the built-in MediaRecorder API. The file never leaves your device.
Why does compression take as long as the video?
Browsers record video in real time, so a 3-minute clip takes about 3 minutes. Keep the tab open and visible until it finishes.
What format is the output?
Chrome and Edge can produce MP4 (H.264) on recent versions; otherwise the tool saves WebM (VP8 or VP9), which plays in all modern browsers and in VLC. Safari saves MP4.
